A label without a collection.

PHOTOSHOPLIFTING is an artistic-experimental project by Alain LAIN Schibli, working at the intersection of graphic design, fashion, and intervention.

It questions conventional logics of production and authorship in textile design by re-coding existing garments through parasitic strategies. Clothes become a discursive surface, decoration turns into commentary, fashion becomes medium. The graphic interventions act as subtle appropriations – shifting between commentary, critique, and complicity.

Our Graphics

We‘re only interested in the mainstream marginally. Our designs are sometimes odd, often nonsense, usually ironic, cheeky-clever, or socially critical – even subversive. Or they are just funny. At least, we think so. Because: “Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it.” (Oscar Wilde)

Parasitic Strategy

Yes, you could say our iron-ons cling to fabrics like ideological ticks, feeding off them – even rewriting their stories. Mass-market fashion becomes the clueless host. Your old t-shirt? A new host body! No brand is sacred (unless the fabric says “no heat”), and we don’t ask for permission. Some might even say: It isn’t decoration – it’s infiltration.

Collaborations

What’s better than working with people you respect and who share your values? Sure – holidays, sex, drugs & rock’n’roll, maybe not working at all. Could be. But that’s not the point (and the question was rhetorical anyway). Point is: we’re into collabs – with emerging, established, and positive-minded creatives. If that’s you, drop us a line.

Sustainability

Nope, our iron-ons are not made from ground apple seeds, and no, they aren’t biodegradable. But we do believe there’s something deeply sustainable about giving old clothes a second life – and loving them again instead of tossing them out and buying new ones. So yeah, with a clear conscience we say: Pimp your old clothes – it’s environmentally friendly!

PHOTOSHOPLIFTING’s story actually starts in 1998.

At 17, Alain LAIN Schibli prints his first tees using the direct-to-film method – for himself and his school buddies. The quality? Let’s just say… it could’ve been better.

Fast-forward twenty-something years and five fashion label launches later – the quality’s now top-notch. Direct-to-film can finally rival screen printing. LAIN earned his stripes working with various streetwear labels – and kept experimenting on the side. In 2023, he launches a small line of printed caps and tees under the name STUDIO LAIN.

By 2025, he decides to go all in with iron-on graphics, creating and selling them under the name PHOTOSHOPLIFTING. As a graphic designer, he loves the idea of separating clothing graphics from the clothes themselves. No minimum quantities, no shelves full of inventory – and way more sustainable than mass-producing new garments. A label without a collection.

PHOTOSHOPLIFTING is a project in motion. Let’s see where the journey takes us!
